Metabolic Testing Description and Preparation - Training Zone
(gas) Testing

-
No OTC
medications test day, specifically decongestants or
anti-histamines
-
Eat
normally with your last meal no sooner than 3 hours prior

-
You will
need to complete a brief medical history form
-

should expect a good workout, even if it’s only 15 minutes
-
Cost of
the test is $125 – cash, check, VISA, MasterCard, Discover
or AMEX
You will be breathing through a respirator-type device which
consists of a disposable/sterile mask that fits over the
mouth and nose, and a hose connecting the mask to a gas
analyzer. The mask will be strapped very tightly to the face. We
supply a heart rate transmitter strap which you will wear on
your chest. You may
not be able to wear your personal heart rate monitor (but bring
it) for this test depending on compatibility with our equipment.
You will work
under progressively increasing loads while your oxygen
consumption and heart rate are monitored. The test will produce
values for your peak oxygen consumption (VO2max), your calorie
expenditure at various levels during the test based on your
carbon dioxide production, your lactate
threshold heart rate, your aerobic threshold heart rate and your
predicted maximum heart rate. We'll see a full profile of your
metabolic states and discuss the training and racing
implications.
